Yantai large cherries, also known as Western cherries, originate from western Asia and southeastern Europe. China first introduced them to the Yantai region in Shandong Province during the 1870s, thanks to Western missionaries, sailors, and overseas Chinese communities who initiated cultivation there. As the earliest spring fruit to hit the market after Chinese cherries, these large cherries are affectionately called "the First Bloom of Spring Fruits." Their fruits boast vibrant, glistening colors—deep red like garnet and golden yellow like creamy jade—and are exceptionally rich in nutrients. They contain abundant sugars, proteins, vitamins, as well as essential minerals such as calcium, iron, phosphorus, and potassium, earning them the title "a culinary gem among fruits." Yantai cherries are not only large and delicious but also hold up remarkably well under cold storage conditions.
