Gala apples originated in New Zealand and were developed by New Zealand fruit breeder Keith. Selected in 1939, they were officially released in 1960. The fruits are medium-sized, with individual apples weighing between 180 and 200 grams. They have a short-conical shape and a golden-yellow skin, often adorned with a faint blush of pale red on the sunny side, along with irregular, broad reddish stripes. The fruit boasts a perfectly balanced and visually appealing appearance. At the apex, you’ll find five distinct ridges, while the stem is slender and elongated. The skin is thin yet glossy. Inside, the flesh is pale yellow, dense, finely crisp, juicy, and delivers a sweet yet subtly tart flavor that’s incredibly delightful. Gala apples are renowned for their superior quality and excellent storage capability. Additionally, young trees bear fruit relatively early, exhibit high fruit-setting rates, and consistently produce abundant, stable yields—making them easy to cultivate and manage.
